You may have noticed other comments on this website despairing of ever mastering Google Adwords, and for most of us right-brain types, that's probably true. To really promote something effectively with Adwords takes a good deal of left-brain analysis and will more likely than not involve using either a database or spreadsheet. Before I realized this however, I purchased a copy of Perry Marshall's "Definitive Guide to Google Adwords."
Now since this a product review and not an article on a particular system I'll separate out the general unfriendliness of Adwords to the average right-brainer and concentrate solely on the value of the product in question. In short, I was impressed. The amount of information in this e-book is significant and the strategies make sense. One of the basic strategies is to break up your keywords into separate groupings rather than blasting the system with 1000 keywords on one ad. So I tried this. Actually, I tried it both ways. The difference between doing it Perry's way and the way everyone else does it was SIGNIFICANT. I didn't figure the exact percentage, but doing it by the methods describe in "Definitive Guide to Google Adwords" took me from 3 to 4 clicks in a week to dozens in the same time period. Unfortunately for me, he goes way beyond these simple strategies and I imagine could really turn you into a pro if you had the tolerance for the kind of number crunching it entails. So if your left-brain works that well, I recommend it. If not, you can still get some valuable information from his free e-mail course. Oh, and don't think you can't do this, just because I can't. It's just that when it comes to anything remotely related to accounting, I'm an idiot. You may very well be more balanced. At least check out the course: Adwords is too valuable a tool to leave behind entirely. |
